The seal anchor member(100) includes a first end (110), a second end (120), at least one longitudinal port (130)extending between the two ends (110, 120), and a seal assembly (140) disposed withinthe at least one longitudinal port (130). The seal assembly (140) can be positioned at anylocation along the length of the at least one longitudinal port (130). The seal assembly(140) comprises a seal housing (141) which is dimensioned to receive a surgical instrumentinserted into the at least one longitudinal port (130) and form a substantially fluid-tightseal therewith. The seal housing (141) may comprise a pivotable member (180) to pivotthe surgical instrument inserted therein. The at least one longitudinal port (130) maydefine two gradually enlarging openings to facilitate the maneuverability of the surgicalinstrument inserted therein. The at least one longitudinal port (130) may comprise aprotective sleeve (150) to protect it from accidental penetration by the surgicalinstrument.
